Life in Landscapes - Mini’s
This is a mini cradled panel series I’m currently working on. This work has emerged as a direct response to my observations of gardens and how they give a home a personality.
The panel process begins by layering materials onto art paper and adhering the paper to panels. I prefer paper’s receptive, absorbent nature, which lets me draw on my natural illustrative background to incise and abrade the surface, building imagery through repeated applications of watercolour crayons, charcoal, chalk pastels, acrylic paint, and oil pastels. I push and pull each layer until the imagery feels right and a sense of history and story emerges.

The Expansive View Series
My painting process begins with a light drawing in watercolour crayons, then layering materials and medium onto the canvas. This current series on canvas presents challenges, especially when I bring drawing materials into the process. The canvas isn’t very firm, which makes pressing hard difficult. Building up imagery through repeated applications of acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite, and oil pastels creates a sturdy, rich surface. Each layer is pushed and pulled until the imagery feels right and a sense of history develops, settling between beauty and loss, decay and growth.
